The 30th death anniversary of Zashei Huire (1971–1996), former president of the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), was observed on May 9 at the GHS Auditorium, Phek Village.
The programme, organised by the Phek Village Council, witnessed the participation of around 2,000 people who gathered to pay homage to the late leader.
The legacy of Zashei Huire was shared by Shevohu Keyho.
MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu was the main speaker, while short speeches were delivered by Vezuhu Keyho, Wepelo Mebou, Sano Vamuzo and Bino Kenye.
The programme was chaired by Niesucho Keyho, while the welcome address was delivered by Phek Village Council chairman Thupuve Vero.
Chekredziimi Cultural Preservation Society, led by Pudusu Vero, presented a tribute song dedicated to Zashei Huire, while Zalezo Vero and Co. presented indigenous tunes. The Samaritan Group also presented a special number.
Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo, Pastor of Phek Town Baptist Church, and Rev. Kevengoi Sakha, Pastor of Lozaphuhu Baptist Church, offered prayers for the programme.
Earlier, Rev. Vesito Venuh, Pastor of Phek Village Baptist Church, led a prayer during the laying of wreath at Zashei Huire’s graveyard in Phek Town.
