The 31st edition of the prestigious Mayangnokcha Awards Presentation Ceremony, organized by the Mayangnokcha Award Trust (MAT), was held at Christian Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Dimapur, to celebrate the academic achievements of the top performers in the HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) examinations conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE). Seven awards, instituted by the Trust and its partners, were conferred on the meritorious students.
Dr C Furkumzuk, President of MAT, expressed gratitude in his address to the special invitee, Cherakung Zeliang, IFS, Regional Passport Officer & Head, North East Region, Ministry of External Affairs, who was also a recipient of the Mayangnokcha Award in 1997. Dr. Furkumzuk emphasized MAT’s evolution from its inception in 1994, when it was the only state-level award recognizing academic excellence, to becoming a prestigious accolade today.
In his speech as the special guest, Cherakung Zeliang, IFS, shared his journey as a recipient of the Mayangnokcha Award in 1997. He reflected on the importance of resilience and sacrifice in achieving academic success and emphasized that education plays a vital role in shaping a positive society.
Zeliang spoke about the challenges he faced at the national level after excelling in the state, stressing the need for hard work and perseverance. He encouraged parents to support their children’s ambitions and urged students to remain dedicated to their studies.
He concluded by reminding students of the importance of discipline, teamwork, and humility in achieving their goals, leaving the audience inspired with his message of hope and determination.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of seven awards, with Mhachilo Yanthan from Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, being the overall topper and recipient of three awards, including the prestigious Mayangnokcha Award for Academic Excellence.
The ceremony also featured a special presentation titled The Educationist by DABA OLA, a musical performance by the CHSS Choir, and concluded with a benediction led by Rev. Wati Longkumer. The event was presided over by Dr. A. Sentiyula.
