The second day of the 32nd MDCA Inter Club Cricket Tournament saw another nail-biting encounter that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the last ball. In a low-scoring but exhilarating match, Trebuchet CC secured a dramatic last ball victory over United Brothers by 2 wickets.
United Brothers, batting first, faced a disciplined bowling attack from Trebuchet CC, managing to post only 88 runs before losing all wickets in 16.3 overs. Senglong, with 37 runs, stood as the lone batsman showing resilience against Trebuchet’s bowling attack. Chubaodang, Mudassir, and Arjun claimed 2 wickets each for Trebuchet.
Trebuchet, in their run chase, appeared to be cruising comfortably towards the target at the 14-over mark with a score of 74/1. However, a sudden collapse saw Trebuchet lose six wickets for just 14 runs.
In a thrilling last over, Sentiwapang defending only 5 runs scalped the first hat trick of the tournament but Trebuchet eventually won the encounter in the very last ball of the over. Talikaba of Trebuchet, who scored 35 runs, made a neat straight drive towards long to hit the first ball of Sentiwapang for four but was clean bowled in the very next delivery. Sentiwapang got the two wickets of Arjung and Nukshi Jamir on consecutive deliveries, completing a hat-trick.
Trebuchet’s number 9 batsman, Chubaodang, then walked into the crease with the scores on level and needing 1 run to win off the last 2 remaining balls. Following a dot ball in the fifth delivery, Trebuchet required 1 run off the final ball. Chubaodang flicked the ball to the led side towards mid wicket, which went just a few inches away of the fielder to take Trebuchet to victory.
In the afternoon match, Skylark dominated Sovran CC, securing a convincing 9-wicket victory. Sovran, after winning the toss and opting to bat, set a target of 75 runs, losing all wickets in 17 overs. Alemsashi, with 27 runs, was the standout performer with the bat for Sovran CC.
Skylark’s Vijay Rai was the star bowler, claiming 4 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs, while Aloto, Senti, and Temjenmeren collected 2 wickets each.
Chasing the target, Skylark reached the 75-run mark, losing just 1 wicket in 10.1 overs, ultimately winning the match by 9 wickets. Vijay Rai top-scored with 47 runs, while Chambo contributed 16 runs.
