The 32nd edition of the Open United Soyim Club (USC) Ungma Badminton Tournament commenced this evening at the Yimtsüngta Arok Sapang in Ungma village. Organized by the USC Ungma, the two-day event upholds its long-standing tradition of building sportsmanship and nurturing badminton talent in the region.


The tournament was inaugurated with a special ceremony attended by Imliyanger, District Program Officer (DPO) of Mokokchung, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland, who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Imliyanger praised the USC for its dedication to organizing the tournament for over three decades. He highlighted the importance of physical activity in the modern era and expressed admiration for the players’ enthusiasm and commitment. Emphasizing the essence of sportsmanship, he remarked, “The game is not just about winning or losing; it’s about enjoying the journey and playing in the true spirit of sportsmanship.”

The ceremony also featured a welcome address by S Ngangshimeren Jamir, President of USC, and a special performance by Soyimramok Jamir. Additionally, Kikumsungba Jamir, Tatar, delivered an exhortation to inspire the participants.

This year’s tournament sees 44 teams competing in several categories, including:

· Junior Boys Doubles (Under 19)
· Mixed Doubles
· Veteran Doubles (75+)
· Men’s Doubles
· Junior Singles (Under 13)

With a total prize pool of Rs 51,000, the tournament has attracted participants from various age groups and skill levels, reflecting the growing interest in badminton across the region.
