Mokokchung, September 30 (MTNews): Mokokchung Friday League Season 2 under the theme “35 & Kicking” kicked off at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex with Imlikokba, District Planning Officer, Mokokchung gracing the inaugural ceremony as the guest of honour.

 

Imlikokba, District Planning Officer, Mokokchung during his speech stated that, he was inspired to see 35+ players united for the love of the game. He further remarked that laziness was a trait which set as years add on to our life which can bring about various diseases including obesity which can be overcomed and managed through the league.

 

 

He went on to say that, MFL was the right platform for promoting and inspiring the youths of the community in playing the sport.

 

Tiakumzuk, Convener, MFL Technical Committee during the opening note stated that the first season of the league that started in 6 May 2022 and ended in 16 July 2022 was a staggering success and added that playing in the 35+ league was an achievement in itself.

 

He also informed that the league was not owned by any one individual or group, but rather by all of the clubs and players in the league collectively. While the league now has six permanent teams, he stated that more teams will be inculcated to the league in the coming seasons.

 

Mokokchung Friday League has 6 teams namely; Revenant FC, Terokroker FC, Aturar FC, Senso Sporting Club, New Ecclesia and Wasang FC (previously named as Royal Enfield Mokokchung)

 

 

Match Report:

 

The first match of the season saw defending champions Revenant FC thrashing Terokroker FC with 3 goals to none. Right before heading onto the first half Temsutoshi broke the deadlock with a lofted assist from season 1’s top scorer Chubaangnen in the 28th minute.

 

Securing a better deal for the side Chubaangnen managed to get pass the Terokroker goalie scoring a wonderful solo goal right after the break in the 34th minute. Two minutes later Rongsenchiba sealed the fate for the team as he went on to score from a free kick ending the match with Revenant FC setting the bar high for the other teams in the league.

 

The second match of the day saw Senso Sporting Club’s Repamangyang make headlines as he went on to score the first hatrick of the season and assist yet another goal against Aturar FC.
Senso Sporting Club showed class starting an early leader with Tsupong scoring just 6 minutes into the games with an assist from Repamangyang. The mvp of the match Repamangyang showed class as he scored in the 12th, 24th and 45th minute making sure no stones were left unturned ending the match against the Aturar side with 4 goals to none.

 

The third and final match of the day witness New Ecclesia and Wasang FC sharing points as both the teams were unable to overpower each other ending the match with a goal apiece.

 

New Ecclesia’s Renbi gave the team a lead in the first half through a penalty in the 27th minute however Wasang FC’s Tiakumzuk managed to give a equalizer for the team right before the final whistle in the 59th minute. Both the teams shared a comfortable possession of the ball leading the contest to a draw.
