Seven medal wins for Mokokchung on day one
The 35th All Nagaland Taekwondo Championship 2025, along with the Under-14 “Catch Them Young” tournament, officially commenced in Longleng with a total of 486 participants from across the state. The opening ceremony was held on July 30 at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Longleng.

The event is being organized by the All Nagaland Taekwondo Association (ANTA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, and hosted by the Longleng District Taekwondo Association.
MLA and Advisor for Information Technology & Communication and Economic & Statistics, H. Sethrongkyu Sangtam, attended the inauguration as the special guest, while Deputy Commissioner Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
In his address, Sangtam highlighted the growing success of Naga youth in sports at both national and international levels. He said the government under the leadership of the Chief Minister is actively promoting sectors like sports and music, believing that the youth hold the key to the state’s future. He encouraged participants to stay committed to their chosen fields and assured government support to those who are dedicated and hardworking. He also cautioned young athletes against drug abuse and urged them to stay focused to build a promising future.
Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom, in his remarks, thanked the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for selecting Longleng as the host district. He appreciated ANTA’s president for his contributions in advancing Taekwondo in the state and training young athletes. Emphasizing the values of discipline and physical development instilled through Taekwondo, Phom encouraged players to pursue excellence and assured that the government remains committed to improving sports infrastructure and support systems.
The keynote address was delivered by EAC Longleng, Tsalimse Sangtam, while the presidential addresses were given by the Presidents of both the Longleng District Taekwondo Association and the All Nagaland Taekwondo Association.
The programme included a Taekwondo demonstration by the Niuland Taekwondo Association and a musical performance by Manchei Phom, who sang One Moment in Time. The event began with an invocation by Rev. H. Beaü Phom, Pastor of Longleng Town Baptist Church, and was chaired by Konjem Bujem.
The championship will continue over the next few days, drawing athletes and enthusiasts from various districts in celebration of sporting spirit and discipline.
The tournament will conclude on July 31, 2025.

Seven players from Mokokchung won medals in different categories on the first day of the ongoing 35th Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship 2025, being held in Longleng district.

· Jacob S. Konyak (U-18) : Bronze
· Imtipong Amri (U-50) : Bronze
· Impokchaba (U-21) : Bronze
