35th Mokokchung District Badminton Association Open Championship 2023 underway

The much anticipated 35th Mokokchung District Badminton Association Open Championship has officially commenced today. The opening ceremony took place at the District Badminton Stadium, where players, officials, and badminton enthusiasts gathered to witness the tournament kick off.

 

The inaugural program was graced by the presence of N Jamonger Ao, Assistant Director of Food & Civil Supplies in Mokokchung, who attended the event as the Special Guest. Addressing the audience, Mr. Ao emphasized the importance of focusing on mentoring and nurturing skilled players, urging the participating organizations to extend their efforts beyond just an obligatory tournament. He encouraged the players to utilize their innate talents and display them with discipline throughout the championship.

The tournament has attracted a total of 76 players, who will be competing in 27 different categories. The matches are scheduled to take place until 1 July, when the tournament will culminate with the final showdowns.

 

One of the highlights of this tournament is that the winner of each category will earn the opportunity to represent the district in the upcoming All Nagaland Badminton Tournament set to be held in Kohima from 10 July.

 

Furthermore, the winners from the district-level competition will also have the chance to showcase their abilities at various Northeast events and National level tournaments, where they will represent the state.

 

 

The opening matches of the tournament featured intense competitions between promising players. In the U-15 boys’ singles category, an exhilarating match was witnessed between Arkutong and Tiamoa. Eventually, Arkutong emerged as the victor, showcasing remarkable skill and resilience, with a final score of 21/23, 21/07, 21/17.

 

 

The U-11 boys’ doubles category witnessed an equally gripping match between the pairs Sentiyanger & Supongnukshi and Moatangit & Lenjener. In a closely fought battle, Sentiyanger & Supongnukshi showcased exceptional teamwork and tenacity, ultimately clinching the victory with a final score of 11/21, 21/18, 21/15.
