Cekrotalü Khüsoh wins best Phek district athletes
Chozuba Area Sports Association (CASA) asserted its dominance in the athletic events of the ongoing 38th Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) Meet, securing top honors in the athletics category on Friday in Phek Town.
Following the conclusion of the athletics events on Day 3, Beduto Ringa of CASA was adjudged Best Male Athlete for winning two gold medals in the 800m and 1500m, along with a gold in the 4x200m relay. Cekrotalü Khüsoh, also from CASA, was named Best Female Athlete after securing three gold medals in the 800m, 1500m, and 4x200m mixed relay, as well as a bronze in the 4x100m relay.
Chozuba Area Sports Association continued its dominance on Day 3, topping the medal tally with 28 medals (15 gold, 6 silver, and 7 bronze)—an increase of two gold medals in the standings. In the final track event, Veyito Tetseo and Vekhohulu Dozo secured two more gold medals for CASA in the 5000m race. Veyito Tetseo finished the race in 18 minutes and 43 seconds to claim gold, followed by Raku Lohe (18:57.53) and Mhasezu Medeo (19:01), who secured second and third place, respectively. In the women’s 5000m race, Vekhohulu Dozo finished in 22 minutes and 34 seconds to take gold, with Muvelhulu Veswuh (23:43) and Boduralu Lohe (24:34) securing second and third places, respectively.
In the men’s basketball event, Pool A winner Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) will face Chozuba Area Sports Association (CASA) in the first semifinal on Friday. Pool B topper Western Chakhesang Youth Association will play against Centre Chakhesang Sports Association in the other semifinal. In women’s basketball, Chokri Area Sports Association secured a semifinal berth, winning both group-stage matches. The remaining teams will compete for the remaining playoff spots.
In Group A of the football event, defending champions CASA secured a semifinal berth as runners-up after one win and two draws. They drew against Sekruzu Area and Phek Area and defeated Tizu Area 3-1, with Vehuto Ringa scoring the tournament’s first hat-trick. With two wins and one loss, Tizu Area topped Group A, securing a semifinal spot.
In Group B, Secheku Range Sports Association led the table with two wins and one draw, defeating Western Chakhesang and Chokri Area, and drawing against Centre Chakhesang. The Pool B runner-up will be determined when Centre Chakhesang faces Western Chakhesang. A victory will secure their semifinal spot, as they currently have two points from two matches. Chokri Area, with one win, one draw, and four points, is on standby after losing their last league match to Secheku Range (2-0).
At the end of Day 3, CAGSA remained in second place with 22 medals (11 gold, 9 silver, and 2 bronze), followed by Centre Chakhesang Sports Association in third place with 14 medals (5 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze). Secheku Range Sports Association remained at the bottom with four medals (1 silver, 3 bronze).
Semifinals for men’s and women’s football, basketball, and volleyball will be played on Friday.
