Mokokchung, December 8 (MTNews):A total of 394 villages in Nagaland have been covered with Liquid Waste Management under Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) Phase-II from 2020-21 to 2022-23.Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Jal Shakti, informed this to the LokSabha today in a written reply. The 394 villages are as reported by the States/UTs on the online Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) as of December 5, 2022, he added.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation implements two flagship programs of the Government of India: Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase II.
The SBM (G) Phase II focuses on the long-term sustainability of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and Solid and Liquid Waste Management in order to make the villages clean. From 2020-21 to 2024-25, the program is in mission mode.
Patel stated in his written response that funds are released to the states on a consolidated basis under SBM-G. The States distribute the funds further, both among the districts and the various components of the SBM-G.
He stated that the details of district and component-level allocations within states/UTs are not kept centrally.
Under SBM(G) over the last three years, the total amount of Central’s share of expenditure for Nagaland was Rs 23.80 crore in 2019-20; Rs 38.77 crore in 2020-21; and Rs 4.53 crore in 2021-22.
Since August 2019, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), a centrally sponsored scheme, has been implemented in collaboration with states to provide potable tap water supply to every rural household in the country.
Because drinking water is a state subject, it is the responsibility of the states to plan, design, approve, and implement drinking water supply schemes. The Government of India supports state efforts by providing technical and financial assistance. Jal Jeevan Mission takes a universal approach to providing tap water to all rural households in the country. As a result, all villages are included in the Mission’s scope.
The current state/UT status of tap water connections in rural households in Nagaland is as follows (in percentage):
