Mokokchung, March 19 (MTNews): The 3rd Mokokchung Inter Ward Football Tournament will be held from May 4 through 14 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung. This was announced by the organizers, Marepkong Youth Association, during a press conference today at Community Hall, Marepkong.
Bendangnukshi, Convener, Organizing committee, informed that District Sports Office Mokokchung will be one of the main sponsors for the tournament. “The tournament aims to nurture and promote young talents of Mokokchung; thus the tournament is open to talents who are permanent residents of Mokokchung,” he added.
The third edition of Mokokchung Inter-ward football tournament promises a cash prize of rupees 50 thousand for the winner and 30 thousand for the runners up along with trophy and certificates. Further, the tournaments assures individual prizes for Highest goal scorer, Best defender, Best goalkeeper, Best midfielder and Most promising player.
The organizers informed that the association shares revenue generated from ticket sales with participating teams as a way to encourage participating teams.
The organizers also shared the vision of the tournament becoming a self-financed tournament and to induct teams with certified coaches by 2025.
As a way to maintain the discipline of the teams and provide employment opportunities to the coaches, the organizers also proposed to conduct a coaching training clinic in collaboration with the Nagaland Football Coaches Association to fulfill the vision of having certified coaches for all teams in the future.
