President Kovind presents Padma Shri Award to Mr. T. Senka Ao for Literature and Education. An eminent personality in the field of media literature, education and social work, he was the Editor of “Ao Milen”, the first newspaper in Nagaland for 20 years.

 

The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honours of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved. The awards are conferred in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Padma Vibhushan awards are conferred for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of higher-order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service.

 

This year’s list of Padma Awards included four Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards. Thirty-four of the Padma awardees are women. The list of awardees also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees.

 

This year, 128 Padma awards were presented in two Civil Investiture Ceremonies. The first Civil Investiture Ceremony was held on March 21 during which 54 personalities were given the honour.

 

President Ram Nath Kovind conferred Padma awards on 74 distinguished personalities for the year 2022 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, March 28.
