Konyak Union President K Yamao Konyak graced the closing programme of the 48th Inter-District and State Badminton Championship 2026 as the special guest at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Mon, on September 4.
Addressing the gathering, Konyak said sports were not only about competition and winning, but also about building relationships, developing friendships and bringing people together. Through sports, he said, people get opportunities to meet new people, learn from one another, explore new places, and understand different communities and cultures.
He encouraged the young participants to strive for higher levels and not limit themselves to the district or state level, but to dream big and work hard to achieve their goals. He also urged them to maintain discipline and stay away from harmful habits such as alcohol and other substances to ensure good health.
Konyak also appealed to the state government to further improve sports infrastructure, training facilities, equipment and opportunities for young sportspersons. He said sports had become a peaceful way to express courage, strength and determination, adding that the battlefield had been replaced by games and sports, while weapons had been replaced by pen and paper.
The programme was chaired by Manyei N, Assistant Professor, Wangkhao Government College, Mon. The invocation was pronounced by Rev. Yeangphong, District Chaplain. A presidential speech was delivered by Dr Watizulu Suzumeren, President, Nagaland Badminton Association. Hentok Konyak presented a special number, while Y Pongba Konyak, President, MDBA and Co-Convener, Planning, delivered the vote of thanks.
The Men’s Team Champion was Chümoukedima, with Peren as the runner-up. In the Junior Boys Team category, Niuland emerged champion, while Peren finished runner-up. In the Junior Girls Team category, Dimapur emerged champion, with Longleng as the runner-up. (With DIPR inputs)
