With the 75 Years of Mon Town, Mon District Badminton Association hosted the 48th Inter District and State Badminton Championship 2026 from September 1 to 4. Advisor to CM, Chairman IDAN, Secretary General Nagaland Olympic Association and President Nagaland Athletic Association, Abu Metha, graced the inaugural programme as the Special Guest on September 1, 2026, at the Main Indoor Stadium, Mon.

In his address, Abu Metha expressed his gratitude to the Mon District Badminton Association and the citizens of Mon for hosting the 48th Inter District and State Badminton Championship 2026. He said it was an honour and a privilege for him to be a part of the programme. Acknowledging their efforts, hard work and dedication, Metha said it was not easy to organise such programmes in a far-flung district like Mon, adding that organising such an event was a service to the State.
Metha congratulated all the players and encouraged them to play with discipline, commitment and punctuality. Citing that sports require hard work, there is no shortcut, no backdoor appointment and no recommendation needed, he urged the young players to do well and qualify in sports. Sport gives a platform to serve the State and country and makes our people proud. He expressed hope that the tournament would be a stepping stone to higher levels and bring people together through sports. Metha also appealed to the players to be ambassadors for peace and unity in the State. Later, he declared the 48th Inter District and State Badminton Championship 2026 open.
The programme was chaired by Eji Wangnyu, while the welcome address was proposed by DC Mon, Wennyei Konyak, who is also the Planning Convenor and Senior Vice President of NBA. Invocation was pronounced by Rev. H. Moba, Pastor, KBCM. The special number was presented by Female Voice. (DIPR)
