The 4th edition of the Mokokchung Town Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament is all set to be held from 8 to 10 October, 2025 at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung. The tournament will be organized by Kumlong Sporting Association (KSA) under the aegis of Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) with the theme “Forging Champions.”
According to a statement received here, the Inter Ward Volleyball Tournament in Mokokchung Town is organized mainly to identify and encourage young hidden talents from the grassroot level.
“Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the tournament continues to provide a platform for the enthusiastic amateur volleyball athletes residing in the 18 wards of Mokokchung town,” it stated.
“Even though the tournament may still be in its infancy yet it had been a remarkable thing to witness the promotion of a few tournament athletes from Mokokchung Town to be selected as District and State level Players, in the past couple of years,” it continued.
It may be noted that the first edition of the tournament in 2022 saw Sungkomen Ward being crowned as champions by defeating Artang Ward in the final. In 2023, the trophy still evaded a strong Artang ward contingent for the second consecutive year as they lost to Kumlong ward in the finals. The tournament in 2024 saw the return of a determined Sungkomen ward who defeated the defending champions Kumlong ward in a nail-biting final match.
The 4th Mokokchung Town Inter-ward volleyball tournament this year is expected to be a thriller as the organizers had announced that each participating team can now play with two players who are non-residents of the ward, with the only condition that they must be Ao-Naga.
“With this new regulation in place, the competition may turn fiercer than ever before as the contention for the championship could now be within the reach of any participating team,” it said.
The 2025 edition will carry a cash prize of Rs 50K for the winners and Rs 30K for the runner-up along with running trophies. In addition, three individual prizes for the best setter, best spiker and player of the tournament will also be awarded with Rs. 3K each.
