The performance of Nagaland Women’s U19 team at the ongoing BCCI Women’s U19 T20 Trophy 2022-23 is, to say the least, far from satisfactory. Nagaland was clubbed in Group D with the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Hyderabad.

Nagaland played their first match on October 1 versus Hyderabad where they lost by 26 runs in a rain interrupted match. Hyderabad, winning the toss and electing to bat first, scored 44/1 in 5 overs while Nagaland could manage to score only 18 runs for no loss of wickets in 5 overs. The match was reduced to 5 overs due to rain.

Nagaland’s second match was against Chhattisgarh, played on October 2. Chhatisgarh scored 167/0 in 20 overs. Nagaland in reply was restricted to 48/5 in 20 overs. Chhattisgarh won by 119 runs.

In the third match, Nagaland faced Bihar on October 4. Bihar scored a mammoth 214/2 in 20 overs while Nagaland managed just 70/7 in 20 overs. Bihar won by 144 runs.

Nagaland played against Andhra in their fourth match on October 6. Andhra after winning the toss elected to field and restricted Nagaland to a paltry 24 runs all out in 19.1 overs. In reply, Andhra cruised to 25/0 in just 4.5 overs, winning the match by 10 wickets. Vipeni with 7 runs in 41 deliveries was the highest scorer for Nagaland, while Soyimkumla with 4 runs from 14 deliveries was the second highest scorer for Nagaland.

Finally, Nagaland played their last match of the tournament against Himachal Pradesh on October 8. After winning the toss and electing to field, Nagaland restricted Himachal to 97/8 in 20 overs but in reply, Nagaland could manage only 61/6 in 20 overs, losing the match by 36 runs.

It was a tournament to forget for Nagaland. All the matches are played in Chennai.
