Nagaland’s Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, today (December 16) urged the youth to embrace honesty, hard work, and determination during the opening ceremony of the 53rd Phusachodu Youth Society (PYS) games and sports meet at the Local Ground in Phusachodu village, under Phek district.

In his address, Khamo emphasized the importance of dedication in sports, education, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. He advised the young people not to be lazy but to dream big, aim high, and strive for excellence at the state, national, and international levels. “Seek God first and pursue your passions with sincerity and hard work,” Khamo encouraged the youth.

He also underscored the significance of physical health, strong determination, and a fear of God in becoming a successful sportsperson. He highlighted that winning medals at prestigious sporting events not only brings fame and accolades but also opens doors for employment, securing a brighter future for athletes.

As the president of the Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA), Khamo referenced notable achievements from the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), citing Olympian footballer Dr. T. Ao, archer Chekrovolu Swuro, and Paralympian medalist Hokato Hotozhe Sema as sources of inspiration. Their accomplishments, he noted, have brought honor to the state and etched their names in history.

Khamo further called on the youth to renew their commitment to the growth and development of their village, emphasizing the need for honesty and integrity. He expressed concern over misinformation and divisive views that disrupt the peaceful coexistence of the community.

Additionally, Khamo urged the youth to act as agents of change and contribute to the prosperity and development of the village and society. He proposed that the period between Christmas and New Year be observed as a ‘family week’ to reflect, strategize, and strengthen family bonds.

The gathering was also addressed by VCC Phusachodu, Vehupa Rose, who urged the youth to foster unity, good health, and sportsmanship.

The event began with a presidential address by Cusato Ruho, followed by a folk tune performance by the Women Society of Phusachodu. The oath-taking ceremony was led by Nucuto Lupo-o, Assistant Games and Sports Secretary of PYS. Invocation prayers were offered by Rev. Vevotso Theluo, Pastor of Phusachodu Baptist Church, and the closing prayer was delivered by Vengotsolu Chuzho, Assistant Pastor of Women PBC.

The four-day sporting event, scheduled from December 16-19, will feature competitions between the Basuh Rifuba, Bakuna Rifuba, Ciejuba Rifuba, and Rukhroba Rifuba colonies. Events include track and field events and various games for both men and women.
