The 5th Batch of the School Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) for 53 heads of schools from across the state commenced on August 6 at the SIEMAT Hall, SCERT in Kohima.
Aimed at equipping school leaders with relevant and updated skills, the one-month SLDP training is organized by the School Leadership Academy, SIEMAT, SCERT, in collaboration with the Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse (NECTAR).
During the brief inaugural program, Achetla Ao, Joint Director of SCERT and Cell Head of SIEMAT, delivered the welcome address. She encouraged the participants, stating that “to be an effective school leader, one needs to regularly update their skills.”

He urged the participants to recognize that “despite the numerous challenges in schools, an effective school leader can bring about quality change and improve schools.” He also encouraged school leaders to share best practices for the betterment of schools, students, and society.
The training focuses on seven key areas: Perspective on School Leadership, Developing Self, Transforming the Teaching-Learning Process, Building and Leading Teams, Leading Innovations, Leading Partnerships, and Leading School Administration.
The program aims to enhance governance and capacity among school leaders, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of the education sector in Nagaland. The current batch of SLDP will conclude with project work submissions and an online valedictory program on September 4, 2024. The SLDP program is one of the many initiatives being implemented by NEP – The Lighthouse (NECTAR) to improve the quality of education, teaching practices, capacity building, and the learning environment in government schools across the state.
