In a heated political exchange following Dr Chumben Murry’s campaign kickoff in Mokokchung on Friday, S Supongmeren Jamir of the Indian National Congress (INC) launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. Jamir accused the BJP of exerting an iron grip over Nagaland’s 60 MLAs, alleging that they were bound by the directives of the BJP high command.

Jamir, while taking a jibe at the PDA’s campaign under the much touted “historic backing of the 60 MLAs,” stated, “BJP being a national party, no one can escape from the directive of the high command. The 60 MLAs (of Nagaland) are tied by the BJP high command,” adding, “we should feel pity for the MLAs.”

Jamir also highlighted the looming threat to religion, tradition, and customs under the current political climate, urging MLAs to defy the BJP’s directives and allow people the freedom to vote, despite the government operating without opposition due to its alliance with the BJP.
