The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) 2025, formally launched in Mokokchung district by the Deputy Commissioner on May 29, has crossed its halfway milestone despite adverse weather conditions on some days, engaging approximately 6,000 farmers across 67 villages over the past eight days.

Three teams in the district, comprising scientists from ICAR, subject experts from KVK, and allied departments, are visiting approximately three villages per day.

According to an update received here from KVK Mokokchung, during the campaign, experts highlighted the correct usage of fertilizers based on soil health cards, mitigation of acidic soil, modern agricultural practices for Kharif crops, resource conservation and climate-resilient technologies, natural farming, integrated farming systems, animal production and management, and government schemes and policies.

“At the end of each visit, an interaction session is held, where farmers commonly raise concerns about disease and pest infestations in major crops such as paddy, maize, chili, tomato, soybean, cucurbits, and fruit crops like citrus, mango, and litchi,” the report added.

Additional issues include the management of acidic soil, the importance of soil health cards, and the feasibility and prospects of natural farming in the district.

It further said that processing and value addition of locally available vegetables and fruits for additional income generation, uplifting rural livelihoods, and reducing wastage are topics that particularly engage women farmers.

In the livestock sector, frequent queries relate to vaccination schedules, management of African Swine Fever, and Pashu Aadhar. Experts addresses these concerns by providing knowledge on preventive and corrective measures to help farmers develop progressive, sustainable, and eco-friendly agriculture and allied sectors.

VKSA is a nationwide agricultural campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, as part of India’s vision for a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.

The campaign is organized under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and is jointly implemented by 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 113 ICAR institutes, 3 Central Agricultural Universities, 63 State Agricultural Universities, and allied departments of state governments. VKSA aims to reach 1.5 crore farmers across more than 700 districts by June 12, 2025.
