The two-day 67th general session-cum-cultural dance competition of the Phek Students’ Union (PSU) commenced on Thursday at the GHS Auditorium Hall, Phek Village, under the theme “Beyond Mediocrity”.
Addressing the inaugural session as the speaker, Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek, emphasised the importance of putting God first and reminded the gathering that nothing is possible without God.
She advised students to be practical, work towards achieving their aims, and contribute to the well-being of society. She also urged them to use social media wisely.
Also speaking on the occasion, W Balong Phom, EAC, Phek Headquarters, encouraged students to give due importance to local languages and uphold cultural identity. He cited examples of countries such as China and Russia, which have preserved and continue to practise their native languages over English.
Huvekholü Keyho, Women VDB, Phek Village, also exhorted the gathering.
The inaugural session began with an invocation prayer led by Kuzhohu Soho, Pastor, CRC, followed by a welcome address delivered by PSU vice president Muleyi Vero.
Greetings were shared by Veshe Chizo, President, Phekmi Collegiate Forum.
The general secretary’s report was presented by PSU General Secretary Sherakho Venuh, highlighting the activities and progress of the union.
The presentation of meritorious awards was led by PSU assistant general secretary Poshelii Venuh.
The inaugural session was chaired by PSU vice president Raleve Chizo and concluded with a benediction prayer by Chinieta Rhakho, Deacon Chairman, PVBC.
In the afternoon, the literary session was moderated by Poluto Soho, Debate and Symposium Secretary. It began with an invocation prayer by Niekuvolu Lohe, Associate Pastor, Women Department, PVBC.
A special number was presented by Besüsao Venuh and Anuhu Rhakho.
The competition hour featured Spelling Bee, Extempore Speech, and Quiz competitions, with Tuku Venuh, Tsupolu Vero, and Munune Venuh serving as judges.
The session concluded with a benediction prayer by Ozo Venuh, Youth Director, CRC.
The general session will continue till January 3.
