Mokokchung, February 28 (MTNews): The 6th Master Shield Trophy 2022 organized by the Mokokchung District T20 Cricket Federation (MDT20CF) started today at Assam Rifles Ground, Mokokchung.
Chief Match Patron, Allen Imchen, Senior Inspector, Food & Civil supplies, Mokokchung during a short speech stated, “Make your position in the team and let it be known to the players. Be consistent, be indispensable and be resourceful in any given situation” while highlighting the experiences from his own cricketing career as a youth.
Imnayanger Jamir, President, MDT20CF during his welcome speech expressed appreciation towards the players of the six participating teams out of which one team is visiting from Wokha District.
The inaugural match of the tournament saw winners of the recently concluded MDCA 30th T20 Interclub Tournament, Titans Cricket Club go up against Sports Fit Cricket Club visiting from Wokha.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sports Fit threw an overwhelming competition to Titans with Lijanbemo Patton and Thungchamo Jami posting 39 and 20 runs respectively contributing to the overall total of 128 runs with 8 wickets down in 20 overs. Meanwhile, Neehal and Toshimeren collected 2 crucial wickets each for the Titans in the first inning.
Sentiwapang and Moatemshi led the runs chase for Titans scoring 32 and 19 runs respectively but could not do justice as the team lacked fire power. Titans underperformed in the game, scoring a total of just 101 runs with 7 wickets down in 20 overs.
Thungchamo Jami and David Yanthan displayed impressive bowling skills by picking 3 and 2 wickets respectively for the Sports Fit side. Visitors Sports Fit CC won the match against the MDCA champions by 27 runs.
The tournament is based on a league-cum-knockout basis with six teams divided into two pools, the top two teams from each pool will proceed to the semis.
