The 6th NI Jamir Memorial Nagaland Open Basketball Tournament commenced today at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung organized by the Intermingle Club, Mokokchung under the aegis of Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) and Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA).

Players of the inaugural match between Mystic Ballers Kohima and Tepenjem Mokokchung being introduced to the special guest, Vekhosa Chakhesang, Commandant, 2 NAP Alichen.

Vekhosa Chakhesang, IPS, Commandant of the 2nd NAP Alichen graced the event as special guest. A total of 14 teams are competing in the tournament, with nine in the men’s division and four in the women’s.

Chakesang in his speech spoke about the significance of the tournament, describing it as a platform where dedication meets opportunity. He stated that each team not only represents a club but also the dreams and aspirations of the players, encouraging all participants to give their best, regardless of the outcome.

The tournament offers cash prizes of 1 lakh rupees for the winners and 50,000 rupees for the runners-up in both the men’s and women’s categories. The MVP will also receive a prize of 10,000 rupees.

Talirenba, Convenor of the Organising Committee, welcomed the participants and spectators, highlighting that Intermingle Club, one of the oldest clubs in Mokokchung, has a rich history in sports, including competing in football tournaments like the MDFA Trophy. He also mentioned that the club hosted the first basketball tournament in Mokokchung and expressed hopes for an exciting tournament ahead with strong performances from all teams.

The opening program concluded with the administration of oath and singing of the Intermingle Club anthem by the MTBA Tongdentsuyong Youth Fellowship.
