Extreme crimes demand equal response. In Nagaland and other Naga areas, every parent’s nightmare is palpable. Thousands are losing their children to drug addiction. Nagaland’s young generation is sliding into an opiated generation once again as in the 80s. According to reports, a huge number of adolescent school and college-going students are into sunflower drug addiction. This drug is available in every street corner and alley in Dimapur city and all towns in Nagaland. WC, NNPGs is deeply disturbed.
A drowsy generation cannot understand the past. It cannot grasp the present, it will always lack the desire and commitment to stand and defend Nagaland against political rhetoric, economic exploitation, social injustice, suppression and destruction of inherent traditions and customs. At this most dangerous hour, the larger picture suggests Nagaland’s indigenous attributes, which forms the nucleus of Naga historical and political identity, is deliberately being targeted to ensure demographic destruction. There is a famed adage, “Beware of the fifth column”. The attack from within through destructive policies is most dangerous. Are there drug-lords sitting comfortably somewhere nearby under the guise of Naga Nationalism and deliberately pushing in sunflower drugs into Nagaland? Is there a policy to incapacitate and destroy the youth of Nagaland? Indeed WC,NNPGs strongly feels a nefarious network is at work.
WC,NNPGs, the conglomerate of Seven Naga political groups, has unanimously endorsed a strong measure to deal with those remorselessly destroying Naga society. Those national workers indulging in drug use or peddling will be dealt stringently.
WC,NNPGs extends appreciation to Nagaland Police Chief Mr. Rupin Sharma and subordinate commanders for trying their best to control the drug menace. The idea must be to dig and cut the roots, then branches instead of plucking the leaves.
WC,NNPGs appeals to all Tribal Hohos, Apex civil societies and general public for support and co-operation on the uphill task at hand.
