The 77th Republic Day of India was celebrated across Nagaland on January 26, 2026, with grand ceremonial, cultural, and community events across all districts, including Kohima, Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Zunheboto, Tuensang, Phek, Noklak, Longleng, Meluri, Kiphire, Peren, Mon, Tseminyu, Wokha, Atoizu, and at institutional campuses such as Nagaland University and Lok Bhavan. The celebrations highlighted patriotic fervor, cultural heritage, community engagement, and recognition of exemplary public service.

At the official function in Secretariat Plaza, Kohima, Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio unfurled the National Flag, received the Rashtriya Salute, inspected the parade, and delivered the Republic Day address. Seventeen parade contingents participated, including Assam Rifles, 78 Bn CRPF, 105 Bn BSF, Tripura Police, DEF Kohima, multiple NAP battalions, Home Guards, Civil Defence, NCC units, Ex-Servicemen, Bharat Scouts & Guides, and three brass bands.

The event also featured awards such as the Governor’s Gold Medal, Union Home Minister’s Medal for excellence in police training, Governor’s Commendation Certificates, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Cultural performances by Jakhama Village Cultural Troupe, Yachummaro Cultural Group, Pochury Cultural Troupe Kohima, Yangphi Jümü Lili Mulung, and Yimkhiung Beru Cultural Troupe added vibrancy to the celebration. Chief Minister Dr. Rio inaugurated exhibition stalls, launched the NagaBazaar e-commerce platform, and inaugurated the Drone School – Drone Centre of Excellence, Nagaland.

In addition, charitable organizations visited institutions across the state. The Indian Red Cross Society distributed sweets at Kohima Parade Ground, while other groups such as Gorkha Public Panchayat, Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers Union, Hindu Kalyan Samiti, Kohima Masjid Committee, Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Royal Club, Puliebadze Club, Classic Club, and Rotary Club engaged with hospitals, orphanages, old age homes, and district jails.

District celebrations across Nagaland were marked by flag hoisting, parades, cultural performances, exhibition stalls, sports events, and recognition of distinguished service. Chief Guests, Special Guests, Advisors, Ministers, and local dignitaries led the programmes in each district, including Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Zunheboto, Tuensang, Phek, Noklak, Longleng, Meluri, Kiphire, Peren, Mon, Tseminyu, Wokha, and Atoizu. Highlights included football and futsal exhibition matches, folk and contemporary cultural performances, community awards, and interactive visits to hospitals, schools, orphanages, jails, and old age homes.

At Nagaland University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.K. Patnaik hoisted the National Flag and addressed students, staff, and faculty on India’s progress, the guiding role of the Constitution, and the university’s achievements over the past three years. Lok Bhavan, Kohima, also marked the day with flag hoisting attended by officials and personnel, reflecting the nationwide patriotic spirit.

The Republic Day celebrations concluded with ceremonial retreats, prize distributions, and performances that reinforced patriotism, unity, and the commitment to the Constitution among all participants across Nagaland.

Mokokchung commemorates 77th Republic Day with parade, cultural shows, and sports

Mokokchung, 26 January: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on 26th January 2026. Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue, Nagaland, T.N. Mannen, unfurled the National Flag and delivered the Republic Day speech.

Eight contingents participated in the march past, including 2nd NAP Bn. Alichen, DEF Mokokchung, 13th NAP (IR) Bn. Yajang, Home Guards Mokokchung, Ex-Servicemen, Mokokchung District Bharat Scouts & Guides, NCC MGHSS, and the Band Party of 2nd NAP Bn. Alichen. The parade was commanded by Assistant Commandant 2nd NAP Bn. Alichen, Zareni Yanthan, NPS, with ABI K. Meren Jamir, New Reserve, DEF Mokokchung, as the Second-in-Command.

Cultural presentations by Zee Walok Cultural Troupe, Ungma, and Chang Union Cultural Troupe, Mokokchung, added vibrancy to the celebration. A tug-of-war match between HoDs and All Ward Union, Mokokchung, was also held as part of the programme.

Advisor T.N. Mannen inaugurated exhibition stalls set up by Women Entrepreneurs, Mokokchung, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Institute of Communication and Information Technology, Nagaland, Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority, DRDA, Department of Horticulture, and the Department of Agriculture.

In the evening, a football exhibition match was played between DC XI and MDVFA, followed by a penalty shootout (ladies) between the Technical Team and the rest of the departments.
