The 78th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Mokokchung on August 15, 2024, at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex. Minister of Environment, Forest, Climate Change & Village Guard, C. L. John, hoisted the National Flag.
Following his Independence Day speech, the Minister presented the District Commendation Award 2024 and inaugurated the exhibition stalls.
A total of eleven contingents participated in the March Past, including DEF Mokokchung, 13th (IR) NAP, Ex-Servicemen, NCC MGHSS, NCC Fazl Ali College, Scout & Guides Queen Mary HSS, Scout & Guides MGHSS, District Scout & Guides, Sumi GMS, GMS Imrong Ungma, and Band Platoon 2nd NAP Alichen. The contingents were led by Assistant Commandant 2nd NAP Alichen, Benrio NPS (Parade Commander), and ABI DEF, Mokokchung, Second in Command.
Highlights of the program included cultural presentations by the Gorkha Union, Mokokchung, and Watemdong Cultural Club, Ungma. This was followed by a Tug of War match between Departmental Officers and MMC Councilors, which was won by the MMC Councilors. Later in the evening, an exhibition football match was played between DPDB XI and MFL 35+.
