Mokokchung, 3 June (MTNews): The Ministry of Rural Development has announced that approximately 88 percent of wage payments have been successfully processed through the Aadhaar Based Payment Bridge System (ABPS) until May of this year.

The ABPS, which leverages Aadhaar, the unique identification number issued to Indian residents, has been instrumental in streamlining the payment process for beneficiaries. To achieve the target of 100% adoption of ABPS, the Ministry has directed all states to organize camps and actively engage with beneficiaries. However, the Ministry has emphasized that no beneficiary should be denied work solely based on their Aadhaar status.

The Ministry clarified that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has not yet fully implemented Aadhaar-enabled payments. Despite the ABPS being available for use in the MGNREGS since 2017, its adoption has been limited. In light of this, the Government of India has made the decision to extend the use of ABPS for beneficiaries under the MGNREGS.
