Nagaland Leads the Way with First-of-its-Kind School Safety Compliance Training. Over 7,500 Teachers Registered in Phase 1 – Government Calls for Statewide Completion by October 31, 2025

In a bold move to strengthen school safety across the state, the Government of Nagaland has launched a pioneering School Safety Policy Compliance Course, developed in partnership with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the Department of School Education (DoSE), and NagaEd.

The initiative addresses a critical national issue: recent data indicates that 98% of schools across India remain unprepared to effectively respond to disasters. From earthquakes and landslides to fires and flash floods, schools are vulnerable epicenters, often lacking basic emergency protocols, trained staff, or structural preparedness.

Recognising this gap, Nagaland is taking decisive action through the rollout of a statewide, contextualised disaster preparedness training program for schools.

A contextual, scalable solution
Unlike conventional workshops or one-time training, the NSDMA School Safety Policy Compliance Course is built using modern instructional design principles tailored to Nagaland’s unique geographic and socio-cultural realities.

Developed by NagaEd, the course is designed to transform the National School Safety Policy (NSSP 2016) into a practical, engaging, and replicable training experience. Since its launch, the course has been met with strong engagement from school administrators and teachers across the state.

A model for India and beyond
As the first state in the region to institutionalise a school safety compliance course at scale, Nagaland’s approach sets a new benchmark for disaster preparedness in the education sector.

The model offers a powerful blueprint for other states, NGOs, and CSR stakeholders seeking to implement school safety programs rooted in sustainability and impact.
