9th Frolic Cup kicks off in Medziphema

The 9th edition of the Frolic Cup kicked off today at Local Ground, Medziphema. Organized by Frolic Club, this biennial tournament has consistently provided a platform for emerging football talents. This edition features 21 teams competing for the coveted trophy.

At the opening ceremony, P James Swu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema, attended as the Special Guest. Reflecting on his 15-year association with the club, he acknowledged its role in nurturing talent, citing 14 players from Medziphema who recently participated in the Nagaland Super League and others who have made a mark in the I-League and Subroto Cup.

Encouraging discipline among the players, he emphasized that success follows discipline. He also read out a message from Küzholüzo (Azo) Nienü, MLA and Leader of NPF, for the occasion.

Match Updates

The opening clash between Eimi Sporting Club and Longol FC saw a dramatic shift in momentum. Eimi SC dominated the first half, with Nikato’s long-range strike catching the goalkeeper off guard, followed by a clean tap-in from Longoulen. However, Longol FC staged a comeback in the second half, adjusting their strategy to take control of the game. Ngulminthang scored once, while Haochon netted twice. Final Score: 3-2 in favor of Longol FC.

In the second match, FC Simlai completely outclassed Skylight FC from the very start. Despite Pagin’s 15th-minute goal giving Skylight the lead, Ngulgouhad equalized in the 35th minute. FC Simlai’s superior finishing shone in the second half, with goals from Ngulgoulal (39’), Moses (51’), Henkhohao (56’), and Lamginmang (65’).
Final Score: 5-1 in favor of FC Simlai.
