Tuensang, August 8 (MTNews): A one-day District Level Sensitization Program on Combating Child Trafficking was held on the occasion of the “World Day against Human Trafficking” at DC’s Conference Hall, Tuensang on 8th August 2022.
The campaign was organized by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) with State Commission for Protection of Child rights and District Administration, Tuensang.
Guest speaker atthe program, NCPCR Consultant, Kapil Sharma spoke on the topic of human trafficking where he said human trafficking was one of the fastest growing organized crimes next to drugs and weapons. Global scenario and statistics, child rights in India, rights of children in the Constitution of India, human/child trafficking, constitutional and legal mechanism, why children get trafficked, vulnerable indicators, digital era, and trafficking network etc were the topics he dwelt.
Superintendent of Police Tuensang, Vishal Chauhan said human trafficking is a vicious cycle and this menace exists in every corner of society. He mentioned the importance of the program through which the public can be sensitized and imparted awareness on the severity of the cases, the existence of corrective laws and acts, and the government’s initiatives to fight against human trafficking through which children can be saved.
He also said there is prevalence of domestic child abuse of which some are exposed but many remain unreported and that perpetrators should be booked and persecuted as prescribed by law. “Children’s behavior should be known at home for which parents should take a proactive role in understanding the child’s behaviors, parents have every right to supervise even the accounts of the child’s social media,” he added. “In times of missing child cases, information to the authorities should not be delayed,” he also said.
DC Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant said human trafficking is a work of evil that can be controlled or stopped only when all the stakeholders are united and work in cooperation. The program was chaired by DCPO Tuensang, Yanthriba Sangtam.
