Dimapur, August 13 (MTNews): The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has appealed to the Government of Nagaland to initiate immediate steps to resolve the ongoing boundary issue between Kiyevi village and Peren district to avoid further social unrest. Saying that the prolonged boundary issue has caused immense hardship and suffering to the people residing in these areas, CNTC apprised the state government to intervene and act before the situation turn volatile.
Lamenting that hostile attitude will only harm the peaceful coexistence between the Naga brothers, the CNTC also appealed to both the Sumi organizations and Peren civil society organizations to amicably settle the issue and allow peace to prevail in the land.
Meanwhile, the Western Sumi Hoho has refuted and rejected an order issued by the Commissioner, Nagaland on August 13 addressed to the Deputy Commissioner Chumoukedima/ Peren whereby it has been stated that the matter regarding payment of damage compensation to Kiyevi under package-III maybe kept on hold till further discussion.
The WSH contested that the legitimacy of Kiyevi as a recognized village of Nagaland cannot be compromised at all cost and that due payment of damage compensation must be paid to Kiyevi village. “As such, the WSH will continue with the ongoing indefinite bandh until the impugned order of the Commissioner Nagaland to Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima/ Peren regarding holding of the payment of damage compensation is revoked in toto,” WSH affirmed.
NZPO temporarily suspends blockade of Kiyevi village
The Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) and the CSOs of Peren district have decided to temporarily suspend the blockade of Kiyevi village after receiving a letter from Nagaland Commissioner.
NZPO informed in a press release that the decision to temporarily lift the blockade was taken upon receipt of the Nagaland Commissioner’s letter assuring that “all the related matters and grievances of CSOs leading to indefinite blockade have been considered and also putting on hold whatever compensation to be paid to bogus claimants of residents of the erstwhile Kiyevi Village.”
It also said that the NZPO and the CSOs expect the Government of Nagaland to work on its assurance and that the NZPO and the CSOs “will resume the democratic means of protest again”, if the government fails to fulfill the assurance on its demands.
