Training on Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee, Mokokchung organized by the APMC/PMY Mokokchung Sardar and sponsored by the District Horticulture Office Mokokchung was held at Settsü Village Council Hall on Wednesday.

During his keynote address, Imotemjen, DHO Mokokchung said that the department was formed in the year 1992 and was working hard to reach all villages and assist farmers in the development of growing fruits, vegetables, root and tuber crops, mushrooms, spices, flowers, aromatic plants, coconut, cashew, cocoa, and bamboo through the central scheme of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) apart from Agri & Allied and other schemes.

He continued by stating that a number of MOUs between the government and other firms had been struck, making it simpler for farmers to sell their produce outside of the local market, which had somewhat alleviated the marketing issues of the past. Additionally, he mentioned that 12 of the 100 villages that the state government recognized as vegetable villages, according to the suitability of the crop with the topography, were located in Mokokchung District.

He further urged the villagers to find out which crops were suitable in their farmland and pursue its cultivation rather than following what others were cultivating while adding that the department was ever ready to assist the farmers in marketing their surplus yield of their crops.

During the training, resources persons; Dr. Imchalemla, SDHO Tuli; Recha, H. I. Mokokchung; Tekasangla Ozukum, H.E.A. Mokokchung spoke on the topic, “Packaging practices in papaya, banana and winter vegetables cultivation,” while a discussion hour was moderated by Talitemsu, APMC/PMY Committee member.
