Aliba, October 9 (MTNews): The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) in collaboration with Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) organized a seminar on legal literacy at Aliba village on Sunday.
In his welcome address, Limatongzuk Longkumer, President of the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference, stated that the seminar was organized with the goal of imparting legal knowledge to the youths, particularly those in villages.

 

 

He also expressed OKM’s appreciation to the MDLSA for their contributing time and resources, and added that the OKM is prepared to conduct and host similar seminars as and when the communities in the Ongpangkong range desire or demand them.

 

Bendangsenla, a para-legal volunteer, and Mapujungla, an MDLSA Panel Lawyer, were the two MDLSA resource persons.

 

Bendangla spoke on the Consumers Protection Act 2019, highlighting major features of the Act and discussing its importance and relevance in the modern day. She stated that many consumers ignore the Act owing to a lack of awareness and laziness.

 

While addressing at the seminar, Mapujungla provided a brief overview of the Legal Services Authority and emphasised the significance of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) 2012, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) 1985, and Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986.

 

She went on to explain the significance of Lok Adalat and how people should take advantage of the possibilities to resolve problems at the Lok Adalats.

 

Soyimkumba, President of the Aliba Students’ Union Mokokchung, chaired the session held at Aliba Village Community Hall.
