Mokokchung, October 17 (MTNews): Mongsenbai FC did not disappoint their coach Temjenmeren by keeping a clean sheet and scoring four goals in a match that determined the group leaders. Imnatoshi opened the scoring in the 21st minute, beating the befuddled Longpa goalie Lanusungkum. Before the interval, Vinoka Aye provided the squad some breathing room by scoring in the 31st minute. Starting the second half, Temjenmeren and Loyenyuba scored back-to-back goals in the 49th and 52nd minutes respectively, preventing a Longpa comeback and concluding the match with 4 goals to none. With the win, Mongsenbai FC advanced to the quarterfinals as the group B leader, while Longpa Lomuden FC advances as the group B runner-up.
Longpa Lomuden FC, on the other hand, will bench their first-choice goalie Lanusungkum for their quarter-final encounter against Sports Society Soyim due to a yellow card received today and one against Marepkong Youth Association, making it a double yellow.
O.C.Y.U share points; Advances to quarter finals on goal difference
O.C.Y.U advanced to the quarterfinals as runner-up of Group C after finding favours in a match that would decide who goes to the quarterfinals after Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club Secured the top spot from group.
Younsters FC dominated the first half of the game with some exceptional shots on target, taking advantage of a loose defence, but O.C.Y.U goal tender Tiasunep was a nightmare for the Youngsters’ offence as he seemed impenetrable, but in the 30th minute of the game, Youngsters’ Merangtemjen defeated the goalie through a penalty, leading the team to half time and keeping hope of a quarter final playoff alive.
Starting the second half, the O.C.Y.U side were able to benefit from coach Imnanukshi’s advices as Moarenba went on to find the equalizer in the 36th minute, giving the side a lead on GA. The Youngsters’ side lost their composure in the second half, missing some crucial one on one with the goalie, and the match ended with a point each.
