TKM serve 15-day ultimatum to DoSE; 7 days on, no response yet

Mokokchung, October 17 (MTNews): As of Monday evening, seven days had passed since the Tzurangkong Students’ Conference (TKM) gave the Principal Director of School Education Nagaland a 15-day ultimatum regarding the non-deployment of adequate teachers in schools within the Tzurangkong range of Mokokchung district. According to the students’ body, they are still waiting for a response from the concerned department.

 

It may be noted that on September 17, 2022, the TKM, Tzurangkong Senso Mungdang, Tzurangkong Watsu Mungdang, SMCs and SMDCs, and parent bodies held a joint meeting where it was unanimously agreed that they would resort to initiating appropriate steps until an adequate number of teachers were deployed in all schools within the range that are experiencing teacher shortage.

 

Following this, on October 10, the students’ union issued a 15-day ultimatum, claiming that, despite various appeals and protests, the department had turned a “ridiculously deaf ear” to their demand, leaving the student body to question the “very integrity of the department.”

 

The student body issued an ultimatum to the department, demanding that adequate teachers be deployed in schools within the Tzurangkong range by October 25, failing which “appropriate steps shall be initiated.”
Speaking to Mokokchung Times, TKM President Imlisunep expressed hope that the department will take the matter seriously, despite the fact that they have received no response from the concerned department.

 

“Our request is not new. We have previously protested in the street, sent a representation and a memorandum, and now we have served the ultimatum, but we are yet to receive a positive response. We are just hoping that the department will be concerned about the student’s future,” he stated.

 

Meanwhile, the parent body of Ao students, Ao Kaketshir Mungdang president, Nungdokyanger told Mokokchung Times that they met with the education department three to four months ago and were told that the department would look into the matter as soon as possible.

 

“Because it affects the student community, the Department must look into the matter and act as soon as possible,” the AKM president said, adding that if the department does not respond, then the AKM will consult with the TKM and make a collective decision for further course of action.
