Mokokchung, November 26 (MTNews): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) stated today that 20 years rule of BJP and regional alliance in Nagaland lacked vision and political will.
“Their inner heart is to delay and win the election together and loot. 20 years is enough, people should not expect anything from them except corruption,” NPCC president K Therie said in a press statement. “They will bribe voters for their only weapon is bribe, whatever they do, we can’t stop them,” he went on to say. “What our people must do is use a conscious vote,” he stated.
On the observance of Constitution Day on November 26, Therie said that India adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949 which came into effect on 26 January 1950. “The constitution is one of the longest constitutions with a spirit of a sovereign socialist, secular, democratic Republic,” he said.
He recalled that Nagaland refused to accept the Indian Constitution and did not participate in the first two general elections. “We did not have representation in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, preferring sovereignty for Nagaland. After 16 Point Agreement with Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India announced on 1st August 1960 in the Parliament that we have decided to create a State known as Nagaland State,” Therie said.
He went on to say that an interim body members formed an interim government with P Shilu Ao as the first Chief Executive. “Then, M Vero and Dr SC Jamir were nominated to Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha respectively in 1960,” he added.
Therie said “the first electoral was drawn in 1963 as per the Representation of the People Act 1950. Nagaland State was inaugurated by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on 1 December 1963 as the 16th State of the Federal Union of India.”
He further said that Nagaland “officially” accepted the Constitution of India only after signing 16 Point Agreement and has accepted Finance Commission awards. “We are sustaining statehood with State’s own resources and a Central share of taxes is awarded by the Finance Commission of India (Art.280) and Art 275(1) and other due shares,” Therie claimed.
However, Therie said, the NNC and FGN refused to accept the Constitution of India. “Therefore, in 1964 after Statehood, Nehru again offered talk through ceasefire and it began on 6 September 1964. Negotiations are on since then with off and on. It is now 58 years after signing the first ceasefire agreement. Therefore, people are subjected to two or more Constitutions now.”
Therei then said, “As long as we don’t settle, multiple constitutions will continue to prevail upon citizens.”
Therie recollected PV Narasimharao saying on February 1996, “I cannot give you peace, you have to grow peace in your heart, I can only give you development.” Questioning how to grow peace, he said, “In my considered view, accepting reality and compromising with what is possible within our might. Government of India can go on for 100 years, they have nothing to lose.”
Saying that Nagaland State is rated as “lowest in performing and 2nd last in education,” Therie said that Nehru created the State 62 years ago, and yet, “We are not even as much as KAAC according to Himanta.”
