Seithekema, December 6 (MTNews): The central government, since 2019, allocated over Rs 1,200 crore to Nagaland through the union ministries Tribal Affairs and Jal Shakti. This was informed by the union minister of state for Tribal Affairs and Jal Shakti ministries – Bishwewar Tudu in Nagaland.
Tudu, who was in Nagaland on a two-day trip, visited Seithekema- A village under Chumoukedima district, to inspect the works carried out under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The village chairman, Kelengulie Khro warmly received the minister along with other members of the village council and WATSAN committee. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership in bringing the basic needs of the villagers to the forefront and improving the quality of living, he also acknowledged Jacob Zhimomi, minister of PHED for taking up their village under this scheme ahead of others.
Tudu in his interaction with the villagers stated that after 75 years of independence, under Modi’s leadership, the villages have been made accessible to tap connections at their household level.
It is reported that under JJM, Seithekema- A village has been taken up as a retrofitting scheme and completed during 2021. Around 93 households have been provided with functional household tap connection which fulfills the aspirations of the mission.
He enquired from the villagers if there was any difference after implementation of JJM and they responded that water supply now is regular and adequate.
Tudu was happy that the villagers are operating the distribution system and collecting Rs 30 per month as user charge to meet their expenses.
During this visit, he was accompanied by officials from PHED including officers from PHED Rural Division, Dimapur and the EAC Seithekema circle.
He was also apprised by the Nagaland government officials about the problems encountered for full utilization of the projects as per the guidelines of the central ministries due to the hilly terrain and landlocked areas.
