Mokokchung, 16 April (MTNews): Mokokchung suffered a huge defeat at the hands of strong title contenders Chumoukedima at the Sovima Cricket Ground on Sunday at the ongoing 3rd Late G Rio Memorial U-19 (Boys) Inter District Tournament.
Chumoukedima after winning the toss and electing to bat first amassed a mammoth total of 203 for the loss of just 4 wickets in their allotted 25 overs. Captain and wicketkeeper Yougei scored a brilliant 103 in 79 balls that included ten 4s and three 6s. Openers Yougei and Mughavi Sumi (29) set the foundation right for Chumoukedima as Mokokchung bowlers failed to trouble them. Neizekho Rupreo (26) and Khrievitso Kense (28 not out) also made major contributions to get to their imposing total.
In reply, none of the Mokokchung batters managed to reach the double digit mark except for Basant (24) as they were bundled out for a paltry 72 runs in just 16.2 overs to suffer an embarrassing loss. Five of Mokokchung’s batters were sent back for naught while their captain Imnawapang remained not out on zero without facing a single ball. 24 of Mokokchung’s 72 runs came from extras, thanks to 19 wides from the Chumou bowlers and 5 bye runs.
