In order to provide a more efficient public transportation service, the Mokokchung District Two Wheeler Taxi Association (MDTWTA) has informed that, beginning Tuesday, 18 April, the parking lots for two-wheeler taxis will be as seen in the table.

The MDTWTA informed that the parking space for the IOC and Sewak Gate areas are yet to be confirmed.
The Association viewed that such distribution was required because taxis are a public service and they want to provide a more effective service within the Municipal area.
The Association also stated that in the event of an emergency, it would be more convenient for the public if taxis were located at a nearby location.
At the same time, it was also made known that in the present parking space, opposite Unique Bakery, only 10 slots have been allotted to the two-wheelers which they claim has been a touch ‘over-crowded’.
So far, in Mokokchung town, there are 60 registered two-wheeler taxis with 52 running.
However, it was informed that this new parking distribution arrangement was on a trial basis and that it would be implemented permanently if found to be beneficial and successful.
Commenting on how the new arrangement went today, which happened to be the first day of the trial, the Association stated that because many people were unaware of the new changes, the outcome could not be called a “success.” They were hopeful, however, that the new measures would benefit the general public.
