Advisor of the Department of Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum said on 22 April that the government is trying to scale down the number of government jobs.

“The government is not trying to create more jobs anymore,” the Advisor said, adding that Nagaland is spending too much of the State’s fund in paying salaries rather than using it for development.

Ozukum, who was attending a thanksgiving program that was organized by the Dimapur citizens of 24 Angetyongpang AC at Cornerstone College, Dimapur informed that the Centre has already send guidelines and directives that around 65% to 70% of the fund send to the state must be used in development and 30-35% in paying the salaries.

“However, in Nagaland, it is the reverse. 65% is being spent in salary while only 30-35% is being used for development. That is why we cannot catch up with other people,” he added.

He further went on to say that the world has changed and has become more competitive and urged the youths to pursue competitive exams like the NSSB.

“Like old times, we cannot make black white. We are living in a world where when we do one work and 10-20 RTIs are being filed. The world has become very competitive,” he maintained, stating that those are the reasons why competitive exams such as NSSB are important.

“The NSSB that has now been initiated is clean, straight and transparent,” he insisted, while informing that all the departments have now submitted around a total of 2600 posts to NSSB.
He also informed that the Old and New Phangshang in Chakpa village have now been included in the Development of Under Developed Area (DUDA) scheme.

“We always have wanted that Old and New Phangsang in Chakpa must come under DUDA for they are economically underdeveloped. And I am happy to announce that in the last cabinet this year, it has been approved and therefore, from FY 2023-24, they will now be included in the DUDA scheme,” the advisor added.

Speaking about the election, he admitted that the year’s election was ‘tough’ and felt like a ‘huge war’.
“This election was one of the toughest wars and it was not just in Angetyongpang. This year’s election was a huge battle for many

of our colleagues too. My two competitors also competed in good spirit.” He also said that this year’s Budget was the best because it has a huge focus on youth and entrepreneurs.
