Dimapur, 9 May (MTNews): An MA final year student of Unity College, Dimapur died of a gunshot wound after being allegedly fired at by her boyfriend, Thingiu Khiam (36), a self-styled deputy kilonser (minister) of the NSCN-K (Khango).

 

M Supou, 25, was living with her siblings and was an MA history final year student living in Zeliangrong Colony, Dhobinallah, Dimapur when the NSCN-(Khango) member shot at her.

 

Following the event, according to the DCP (crime) Dimapur, the accused drove her to a neighboring private hospital, where she died from her injuries.

 

Nagaland police have detained the NSCN-K kilonser and his self-styled bodyguard, Mongchon Khiam (37).

 

One modified AK rifle with two magazines and 55 live rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, one country-made .32 pistol with one empty case, two sets of walkie-talkies and a soft top Gypsy vehicle were seized from their possession, the Dimapur DCP said.

 

A case has been registered by the Nagaland police and further investigation is underway.

 

NSF, ANCSU condemns

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) have in separate statements condemned the ‘brutal killing’ of the student.

 

“The federation strongly condemns such violent act with deadly consequences perpetrated by elements threatening to lead our society into chaos. Such inhumane and diabolical act negates the very aspiration of the general populace for peaceful living and ought to be outrightly condemned by all right thinking citizens,” the NSF said.

 

While appealing for peace and unity in all the Naga inhabited areas among various stakeholders, CSOs and individuals, sparing no efforts to uproot those elements and practices which are against the social and economic progress of our people, the NSF appealed to the law enforcement agencies to ensure that befitting punishment is awarded to the culprit at the earliest.

 

Calling the incident ‘inhuman and barbarous’, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union called the act ‘cowardly’ and appealed the law enforcing agencies to leave no stone unturned in awarding befitting “capital punishment” to the culprit as per the law of the land.

 

“No individuals, groups and organizations shall bail out the perpetrator at any cost,” ANCSU demanded and requested all right thinking citizens to vehemently condemn the act.

 

Meanwhile, in another incident, a 25-year-old scooty rider Merithung Kithan succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday after the scooty he was riding with two pillion riders was hit by an unknown vehicle near Dimapur Municipal Council toll tax area towards Purana Bazar at around 10 pm Monday night. The DCP Dimapur said the deceased was a resident of 6th Mile under Chumukedima district.

 

The two-wheeler rider, along with his second pillion rider Zuchamo Patton (25) of Akok village, suffered serious head injuries while the first pillion rider, Mhayamo Kithan (22) of Soren colony in Wokha, received minor injuries in the hit-and-run case.

 

According to the DCP, the second pillion rider has been admitted to a hospital in Dimapur, Nagaland. A case has been registered in this connection.
