Mokokchung, 31 May (MTNews): Mokokchung joined the rest of the state in observing World No Tobacco Day under the theme “We need food, Not Tobacco.” The event, held on May 31 at Senayangba Government Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, also marked the launch of the “Tobacco Free Youth Campaign & Tobacco Free School, Tobacco Free Home.” The program was organized by the District Tobacco Control Cell, Mokokchung.

 

 

 

The occasion saw the presence of Dr Sentirenla Jamir, Jr Dental Surgeon from IMDH, who addressed the students and staff of the school. Using an audio-visual presentation, Dr Jamir provided insight into the harmful effects of tobacco use and its consequences. She emphasized the connection between tobacco use and life-threatening diseases while encouraging the audience to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

 

Nukshiwati Longchar, District Consultant of NTCP, delivered a presentation on the legal aspects of the COPTA Act 2003, enhancing the participants’ understanding of the legal framework surrounding tobacco control.

 

As part of the World No Tobacco Day observance, an essay and video making competition took place at Senayangba Government Higher Secondary School. Tiamenla, a student from Class 12 (Science), secured the first prize in the essay competition. Meputiba, from Class 12 (Art), received the second prize, while Kikumsungla, a student from Class 9, was awarded the third prize.

 

In the video making competition, the first prize was granted to the team “Blooming Girls” while the second prize went to the team “Eruption.” The winners of both competitions were presented with certificates and cash prizes. Additionally, the students and staff actively participated in taking a pledge against tobacco use, reaffirming their commitment to a tobacco-free lifestyle.
