Shillong, 4 June (MTNews): The Ao Baptist Arogo Shillong (ABAS) organized an ‘Eco-Consciousness’ program on account of the ‘World Environment Day’ on 3rd and 4th June.

A one-day workshop on the theme ‘Living in Harmony with Nature’ took place on 3 June. The resource persons for the event were Ms Imtienla Ao, IFS, Dy. Director General of Forest (Central), Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shillong, and representatives from the State Investment Project Management and Implementation Unit (SIPMIU), Shillong.

The workshop was organized in two categories – adults and children. SIPMIU gave a ‘Zero Littering’ presentation for the children’s category, followed by a painting competition for the children.

Ms Imtienla Ao, in her keynote address, talked about Mission LiFE, a GoI initiative, and how this mission has changed the narrative of Climate Change from ‘World Leaders’ to ‘You and Me.’ SIPMIU, on the other hand, enlightened the participants on ‘Solid Waste Management Rules 2016’ and how these rules have been extended beyond the Municipality, and applies to all Indian villages and towns.

The SIPMIU also gave a thorough presentation on ‘Household level Composting – Garbage to Gold,’ where they demonstrated turning household food wastes to gold (organic manure), using the G2G powder, in just a matter of 30-45 days.

The presentation sessions were followed by a Panel Discussion, where participants raised and clarified their doubts on how they can manage their solid wastes better, including hazardous wastes and e-wastes.

ABAS also observed ‘Eco-Sunday’ on 4th June 2023, based on the same theme, ‘Living in Harmony with Nature.’ Rev. Dr. Meyu Changkiri, the Pastor of ABAS, expressed that ABAS is committed to invest its resources in observing this eco-consciousness, not only on ‘World Environment Day,’ but throughout the year. He also expressed that this event would become a yearly event of ABAS.
