Longkong, 7 June (MTNews): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Chuchuyimlang Block, Mokokchung, organized a two-day training and demonstration program on 6 and 7 June 2023 at Longkong village. A press release issued by Tangit Longkumer, ATM of ATMA Chuchuyimlang Block, provided details of the event.

 

 

 

On 6 June , a training session on ‘Organic Waste Decomposer for Promoting Soil Fertility’ was conducted. The resource person for the session was Abenla B Jamir, ATM of ATMA Chuchuyimlang Block. Jamir highlighted the role played by Organic Waste Decomposer in promoting soil fertility and emphasized its advantages as a substitute for harmful chemicals. She explained that the decomposer effectively eliminates 90% of pests, fungi, and bacterial plant diseases and can also be used for seed treatment. Additionally, she provided practical demonstrations on the preparation process of organic waste decomposer.

 

On 7 June, Abenla B Jamir conducted a demonstration on the cultivation practices of Yard Long Bean. She emphasized the importance of proper field preparation, including the significance of line sowing and intercultural operations.

 

Furthermore, Aolemla Kichu, BTM of Chuchuyimlang Block, demonstrated the cultivation techniques for Okra. The farmers were advised to follow the recommended spacing of 30 x 30cm for summer season Okra, while for the rainy season; the recommended spacing was 60 x 30cm. Kichu also stressed the importance of intercultural operations such as weeding and irrigation for the optimal growth and development of the crops.

 

A total of 11 farmers participated in the training and demonstration program, along with ATMA staff members. As part of the program, seeds, organic waste decomposer, and yellow sticky traps were distributed among the beneficiary farmers.
