Nagaland secured Grade-9 in the recently released Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0. The index, devised by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education, aims to assess the performance of the school education system across states and union territories in India.
According to the PGI 2.0 report for the academic year 2021-22, Nagaland scored between 461 and 520, placing it in the category Akanshi-2. The grading system provides a comprehensive analysis of the education system by evaluating various indicators, including qualitative assessment, digital initiatives, and teacher education.

While the PGI 2.0 classified states and union territories into ten grades, none were able to secure a position in the top five grades. Punjab and Chandigarh emerged as the top performers, securing the first and second positions respectively in the sixth grade. On the other hand, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram were identified as the three poorest performers in the PGI 2.0 report.
