Western Sumi Hoho

The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has voiced its deep distress and concern over the persisting ethnic violence in the state of Manipur, which commenced on 3 May and continues to escalate, claiming the lives of more than 140 people so far. The organization has called upon the central government and the Prime Minister to take immediate action to address the situation.

Expressing their perplexity, the WSH questioned why the central government and the Prime Minister have yet to respond effectively to the escalating violence, which has resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including children, women, and the elderly. The WSH also wondered “why so many civil societies and organizations in the entire north – eastern state have chosen to remain silent on this conflict and raise their voice only on some selected issues.”

“The Manipur violence is an issue where everyone should be concerned and work together to end the ongoing conflict as the violence will escalate further only on a larger scale where the North East will be affected and all of us will suffer ultimately,” the WSH stated.

The WSH also denounced the horrific killing of Naga woman, Ms M Lucy and the 4 May incident. The Western Sumi Hoho in conclusion appealed the central and the state governments, National Commission for Women, and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to take ‘serious cognizance’ of the offence and take all necessary measures in order to deliver justice to the victims.
