Mokokchung, 29 July (MTNews): In Tamenglong district, Manipur, two NSCN-IM cadres were reportedly shot dead by members of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on Friday, 28 July, at approximately 2:30 AM in Rengpang village.

 

Reports from Imphal Free Press indicate that the ZUF cadres carried out the attack while the two NSCN-IM cadres were sleeping in a house located 12 km south of Khongsang Police Station. By the time a team from Khongsang police station arrived at the scene around 6:30 AM, the bodies were reportedly already taken away by the NSCN-IM.

 

The deceased individuals have been identified as Captain Zingshongam P Hurray, belonging to Kachi village under Wung Tangkhul region, and Captain Allen Sekho, associated with the Jadonang Brigade of Bungte Chiru village under ZLR (Z) region.
All Zeliangrong Students’ Union condemns

 

In response to the incident, the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland) expressed deep concern and dismay over the killing of the two NSCN-IM cadres and the injury of an innocent civilian.

 

The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AMN) vehemently condemned the act, denouncing the cycle of killings within the Naga society, specifically affecting the Zeliangrong community.

 

“Killing one another is not the solution; rather it will create more chaos and our destiny would be shattered and doomed,” the union stated.

 

Meanwhile, the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AMN) also appealed to various Naga civil society organizations and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) to take up necessary steps to avoid further killing and bloodshed in the Naga society.

 

The All Zeliangrong Students Union (AMN) further urged the ZUF to release the captured NSCN-IM cadres on humanitarian ground in the true spirit of oneness and brotherhood.

 

The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AMN) also shared their grief and extended their profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

 

NSCN-IM cadre surrenders in Longding, Arunachal Pradesh

Meanwhile, according to news outlet Arunachal 24, an active cadre of the NSCN-IM has surrendered before the security forces in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh with arms and ammunition.

 

As per the press release referred to by the news outlet, the joint efforts of the Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles and State police successfully convinced the NSCN-IM cadre to lay down arms and surrender.

 

The surrendered cadre was issued a ‘surrender certificate’ by Longding Deputy Commissioner Bani Lego. Following the documentation process, the former cadre was safely sent back to his native village in Longding district.

 

“The concerted efforts and relentless pursuit by the security forces in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh had paid dividends as 26 cadres had already surrendered this year from this region,” the news outlet quoted an official statement.
