Sovima, 6 August (MTNews): Titans Cricket Club Mokokchung started their Inter Club Champions Trophy campaign on a high as they defeated Dimapur Young 11 by 84 runs in their first match of the tournament played at Sovima Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Having sent in to bat first, Titans CC managed to put up a score of 196/9 in their allotted 25 overs. Menchet Pongen top scored with 52 runs while Nripen Rai contributed 32 runs. Tongpangyongdang (20 runs) and Vijay Rai (21 runs) also helped the team score with their quick fire knocks. For Dimapur Young 11, Zyan picked 3 wickets.
Chasing the huge target against a formidable bowling attack of Titans CC, it was never going to be easy for Dimapur Young 11 and they managed to score just 112 runs losing all their wickets. Vijay Rai, who was also named the Man of the Match, picked 3 wickets while Neehal Rai took 2 wickets. Odilemba, Temsulong, Tongpang and Salangdangba took 1 wicket each.
Titans will play tomorrow against United CC of Dimapur in their last league match. Titans CC with today’s win almost booked their tickets for the semifinals. They just need not to lose the last match with a big margin.
This is the first time that the Inter Club Champions Trophy is being played. Titans CC are representing Mokokchung District by virtue of being the champion club from Mokokchung.
5 Clubs from Dimapur, 3 from Chümoukedima, 1 each from Kohima, Mokokchung, Tuensang and Wokha are participating in the tournament jointly organized by Dimapur District Cricket Association and Chümoukedima District Cricket Association under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association. Sovima Cricket Ground and Nagaland Cricket Stadium are the two venues for the tournament that began on 5 August and will culminate on 9 August.
