EdTech firm Unacademy has terminated an educator named Karan Sangwan whose video in which he encouraged students to vote for an educated person in the upcoming elections went viral.
The tutor was seen saying, “Remember whenever you vote next time, elect a literate person.” The tutor was discussing a recent bill that has been tabled in the Lok Sabha by the ruling government to replace British-era IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act.
User X, Shantanu, shared the development on the microblogging platform, stating, “This teacher urged his students to vote for an educated leader without taking anyone’s name. BJP supporters assumed that he was targeting Modi, and they pressured Unacademy. As a result, he has lost his job.”
Following this, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal shared a post on twitter where he said, “Is it a crime to appeal people to vote for educated politician? If someone is illiterate, personally I respect him. But people’s representatives cannot be illiterate. This is the era of science and technology. Illiterate public representatives can never build the modern India of 21st century.”
Sangwan took to the YouTube Channel ‘Legal Pathshala’ and informed that he will explain the entire ordeal that happened to him on the same channel on 19 August.
