Following the Union Cabinet’s recent announcement regarding a reduction in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices across the country, the impact of this price cut has been observed in Mokokchung. LPG cylinders are now available at a rate of Rs 960 in the region.

According to sources at the Longkumer Gas Agency in Mokokchung, the pricing of LPG cylinders has undergone a modification from Rs 1160 to the new rate of Rs 960, starting from Wednesday, 30 August.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Emanuel Gas Agency in Mokokchung have stated that they have not yet implemented the revised pricing due to a delay in receiving fresh stock subsequent to the price cut announcement. They have communicated that they are anticipating a shipment to arrive by Friday, after which the new pricing structure will be applied.

The Union Cabinet announced a reduction in prices of LPG for all 330 million users in the country in a major relief measure ahead of the festive season.

“All domestic consumers of LPG cylinders will get a Rs 200 subsidy per cylinder. Further, users under the PM Ujwala scheme will get this subsidy on top of the existing subsidy,” Union information and broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur said at a Cabinet briefing on 29 August. The additional subsidy on LPG cylinders will come into effect immediately as a Raksha Bandhan and Onam gift, the minister added.
