Kohima, 31 August (MTNews): Speaking as the special guest at the 11th Graduation Day of Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima, Nagaland, Governor La Ganesan flagged the issues of some teachers in the state not being willing to serve in the interior districts and proxy-teaching.
“One of the problems facing our state is that not all teachers are willing to serve in the interior districts of the state, and also the problems of proxy-teaching,” said the Governor.
He also noted that the state needs trained resources in every corner of the state to ensure quality education, adding that it is expected of teachers to be well-informed and to keep themselves abreast of the latest trends. The Governor said prospective teachers in the state should rise to transform the system as envisioned in the National Education Policy 2020.
Stating that “education is a tool for development,” he said that true education is not achieved by the mere transaction of curriculum but by empowering the students to dream as well as achieve.
The Governor said he found the general atmosphere of educational institutions in the state of Nagaland quite ‘friendly and congenial’ for learning. Therefore, he hoped that a combination of this with commitment and the pursuit of academic and professional excellence will accelerate socio-economic development in the state.
The Governor also shared how the state has developed over the years and also said that development cannot be brought about by fund allocations alone. Therefore, he urged everyone to create a conducive environment for development, including peace and a change in the attitude of people.
